DETECTIVE KING HIT

A Dandenong detective is in hospital after he was assaulted in Noble Park overnight.

The detective was driving along Isaac Street with his female partner just after 2am when the pair stopped to speak to a group of around 20 youths standing in the middle of the road.

The detectives asked the youths, who were aged from late teens to early 20s, to move off the road and keep down their noise level.

At this stage a male has run up from behind the group and allegedly punched the male detective to the face, causing him to fall down.

The detective was taken to Dandenong Hospital suffering facial injuries and cut hands.
